The shortest day of the year - Winter Solstice
"Sat., Dec. 22, 2007, 1:08 A.M. EST (06:08 UT), marks the solstice—the beginning of winter in the Northern Hemisphere and summer in the Southern Hemisphere"
It marks the shortest day and the longest night of the year in the Northern Hemisphere. The sun appears at its lowest point in the sky, and its noontime elevation appears to be the same for several days before and after the solstice. Following the winter solstice, the days begin to grow longer and the nights shorter.
On last Saturday, I found that the day turned dark at around 3:30pm. But I did not notice when did the sun rise because of two reasons. First is because there wasn't any sun on that day and second I slept until 9:30am. ;p
